Washington State Opportunity Scholarship for 2019-2010 is here again for Washington State students who are pursuing a certification in high-demand Washington state industries. However, the Baccalaureate Scholarship is provided by Washington state yearly, while their Career and Technical Scholarship (CTS) runs three times each year. Presently, the CTS scholarship is on-going, and like all WSOS scholarships, it provides funds that cover tuition and/or other fees

Washington State is one of the U.S states with the fastest growing economies. Thus, there are more trade, healthcare, and ScienceTechnology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) jobs than the workforce can’t fill. WSOS, therefore, capitalizes on this need to provide funding to produce adequate and better quality workforce.

Brief Description

The Washington State Opportunity Scholarship provides fund for low and middle-income Washington students to enable them to earn degrees, certificates or apprenticeships. However, they’ll acquire these credentials in a high-demand trade, health care or STEM fields. The scholarship will also set them up to launch careers in the state.

WSOS aims to connect Washington’s leading industries with top Washington talent by reducing barriers to education and training. Therefore, by working in collaboration with the state as well as industry partners, they are able to set low and middle-income students well into exciting careers.

At the end of the day, WSOS will have maximized the return on investment for the state while ensuring that the state’s robust economy continues to thrive.

In addition, WSOS assists students with flexible financial aid funding as well as student support services like mentorship, professional development, and networking.

What You Should Know

Washington State Opportunity Scholarship has up to 20,000 students on track to serve by 2025. Of this number, 57% are women, which indicates that scholarship appreciates more women taking up careers. Also, 67Percent of Scholars WSOS funds are students of color.

Therefore, while the scholarship is available to a large number of Washington students, it is not gender or race bias

Furthermore, the Washington State Opportunity Scholarships provide at least two scholarships yearly. They are:

  • Baccalaureate Scholarship, and
  • Career and Technical Scholarship (CTS)

1. Career and Technical Scholarship (CTS)

The scholarship supports Washington students on their path to high-demand trade, health care, and STEM occupations.

Level/Field of Study

This WSOS scholarship is available to Undergraduate and Associate degree Students. The scholarship is available to be taken in Washington schools USA. It is open for Washington students only.

Scholarship Worth

This WSOS scholarship awards up to $1,500 each quarter to students for the duration of their program. It offers support services as well.

Eligibility For The Washington State Opportunity Scholarship

To get this scholarship:

  • You’ll have to be a resident of Washington state resident as defined by the state.
  • Also, you should earn a high school diploma or GED from a Washington state institution before the application deadline. Check out our post: Can you go to college with a GED | Best Answers.
  • You’ll also need to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) for the relevant academic year by the application deadline.
  • You can as well apply for Federal Education Tax Credits if you’re eligible.
  • Additionally, you should have a family income at or below 125% of Washington state median family income based on family size.
  • As regards enrollment, you’ll have to plan to enroll in an eligible program with at least six credits every term for the upcoming term.
  • Meanwhile, you shouldn’t enroll for a summer term.
  • Finally, you shouldn’t have a bachelor’s degree yet.

How To Apply For The Washington State Opportunity Scholarship

You should apply within the period the scholarship is still open, and to do this:

You’ll have to complete all sections of the application through the Scholarship Application Portal and then click “Submit” when you’re done.

You may also mail a copy of your unofficial transcript or GED scores to WSOS using the address; 1414 31st Ave S., Suite 302, Seattle, WA 98144. 

Additionally, try to complete and submit your FAFSA or WASFA for the relevant academic year before the application deadline.

The application process doesn’t take long to complete. Within 60 to 90 minutes you’ll have completed it. However, you may start the application, save progress and return to complete it later before the application deadline.

Also, you should get ready to answer an essay question designed to help WSOS understand the unique challenges you have faced and worked to overcome.

The fall 2019 application opens on May 20 and will close by July 12, 2019.

2. Baccalaureate Scholarship

This WSOS scholarship opens each year in January and it is for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a STEM or health care field.

Level/Field of Study

This WSOS scholarship is available to Undergraduate Students only and strictly for Washington students.

Scholarship Worth

This WSOS scholarship awards up to $1,500 each quarter to students for the duration of their program. It offers support services as well.

Eligibility

To get this scholarship:

  • You’ll have to be a resident of Washington state resident as defined by the state.
  • Also, you should earn a high school diploma or GED from a Washington state institution before the application deadline.
  • You’ll also need to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA) for the relevant academic year by the application deadline.
  • You can as well apply for Federal Education Tax Credits if you’re eligible.
  • Additionally, you should have a family income at or below 125% of Washington state median family income based on family size.
  • In addition to earning a high school diploma, you should as well have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale). This should reflect on either a current college or high school transcript.
  • If you don’t have this, a passing GED score reflective on an official score report will do.
  • As regards enrollment, you’ll have to plan to enroll in an eligible STEM program with at least six credits every term for the upcoming term.
  • Meanwhile, you shouldn’t enroll for a summer term.
  • You also shouldn’t have a bachelor’s degree yet.
  • However, you must be a high school senior or high school graduate, a college freshman, or college sophomore.
  • Meanwhile, if you’ve earned any college credit post-high-school, you must either have earned no more than 90 quarter or 60-semester credits; or, you have been enrolled in college for no more than six quarters or four semesters.
